The Tech Museum

Before we run through our one-week program, we had a visit to The Tech Museum. It is a wonderful place to spend a good couple of hours. The exhibits were interactive which kept things fun. Great for curious kids and adults. The ticket barcode is very important to let us accessed to all the machine. The best part is the 3rd floor biology section which we can create our own 'DNA Monster', it is very cool! We also had a golden opportunity to watch movie in IMAX.

Tesla Senior Designer Sean Hsu Sharing Session

Sean Hsu is a Tesla Battery Designer. He founded his first company at the age of 17. He got his first customer after 3 years. This story influenced my friends and I to set a goal to have our own company before 18. The most important lesson I have learnt in this session is not to give up. Besides, Sean Hsu also shared his experience in the design field. We should design the product that will purchased by customers and will be able to solve the social problem at the same time.

30 Minutes CUP Design Challenge

Sean Hsu gave us a challenge. He asked us to build a cup with plasticine. The challenge is we should ask our customer (Girl) what cup they preferred and design it. Our customer want a cup that can plant flower and I thought "Are You Kidding Me?" Finally, my teammate Kok Wei (The boy left side of me) and I design a cup that have multifunction cup cover and selfie camera.

The girl is Shi Qi. She is playing the customer role in this session.

Google Senior Designer Alberto Vilarreal Sharing Session

Alberto Villarreal is a Creative Leader with over a decade of experience in the fields of Industrial Design, Interior Architecture, and Design Strategy. He has created a lot of products and strategic vision for some of the influential brands. With more than 30 international awards over the past decade, his work has been recognized with some of the most prestigious honors of the industry, including: Red Dot Luminary Award, Chicago Athenaeum Good Design Award, iF Hannover Product Design Award, and IDSA Industrial Design Excellence Award, among others.He is now working with Google and the Google latest smartphone - Google Pixel is one of his masterpiece. We were honoured to have a chance listen to his sharing session. He told us about design thinking. His sharing session is very useful and persuasive. One of the lesson I learned from him was that design thinking is very important in creating a product that determine whether your customers buy it or not.
